Retiro Park

Popularly known as “El Retiro”, this park is a historic garden and public park located in Madrid and represents one of the main tourist attractions of the city.

It was built in the first half of the 17th century by the Count-Duke of Olivares, and inside it houses numerous architectural, sculptural and landscape ensembles from the 17th to the 21st centuries, highlighting the Monument to Alfonso XII, the Palacio de Cristalel, the Pond Grande, the Parterre, the Felipe IV Gate, the Royal Astronomical Observatory and the Alcachofa fountain.
